Our Core Subjects

The common core standards of the US are used as guidelines for our Literacy and Math Programs.

LITERACY:

Our class meets at the start of the hour where we quickly discuss the language lesson for the day.

Then we break into groups to do our Daily Tasks.

Which includes activities such as:

- Buddy Work (Spelling Exercises)

- Work On Writing (Composition Practice)

- Word Work (Language and Writing Games)

-  Grammar Workbook Pages

- Read to Self or Read to A Friend

- Conferencing with a teacher (for reading & comprehension strategies).

- Handwriting sheets

Each week we have a Writer’s Workshop to help children develop their creative writing skills as well as develop fluency in composing stories, poems, narratives and reports.

MATH

We use the common core state standards with the idea of differentiated instruction. This is where we mix group lessons with individualized activities. The goal is to tailor-fit the program to meet the specific needs of each child.

We aim to create an adaptive learning environment to constantly observe the students and respond to differences in learning style and skill level.

We use games and other materials that make learning fun, easy, and personal.

The Daily 3:

- Games (Repeated exposure to math concepts and skills for review and ongoing learning)

- Worksheets (Frequent practice of basic computation skills to build mastery)

- Conferences (Use of multiple methods and problem-solving strategies to foster true proficiency and accommodate different learning styles).

SOCIAL STUDIES:

Social Studies and Science is organized through themes about the self, family, history, and changing world.

Its concepts encompass how the world has changed, how it continues to change and how it is to live in the modern times.

Social Studies and Science encourage students to be observant of the environment they live in, to be curious of the changing world and to be active members of today’s society.

At Thinkers Unlimited, Social Studies and Science is taught through in-depth discussions about topics, research, and application of knowledge by means of project making.

FILIPINO and HEKASI

The Filipino and HEKASI curriculum adhere to the the Department of Education Guidelines.

We strive to teach the Filipino Language as well as Culture through the use of songs, stories, videos and interactive games and projects.

The first part of the subject includes music and movement. This is followed by a mini-lesson to teach a concept. Then followed up by individual or group projects which could include art works, story making, simple games and the like.
